As outlined in the competition entry, the goals of this project were to design a student recreation center located in a hurricane impacted zone. Sponsored by Kawneer, the design had to include their products including hurricane resistant curtain wall systems, impact resistant glass and sliding doors.

My design proposal was focused on connecting the northern part of the site-USF Campus- with the southern part of the site - a business and commercial hub of St. Petersburg. By addressing the East and West boundaries as well, a circulation spine using Kawneers Curtain Wall system was implemented.

The circulation spine is pushed close to the urban edge on the west side of the site, resulting in a more public connection with the rest of the city. The programatic elements are on the east side of the corridor allowing for private spaces to form facing the ocean bay.

Other sustainable elements are included in the design such as green roofs, passive cooling with shade trees outside and plants inside, as well as natural ventilated windows withen the circulation spine and rest of the program spaces.
