On 13th, looking at Glisan St north. Project site is not in picture. On site, looking North On site, looking northwest Diagram/storyboard analysis of Bladerunner. Identifying interactions and different nodes Visual analysis of film, and that there are converging conflicts of humanity and existence throughout the film. The constant line represents the main character throughout the film. Initial film concept model. Different events occuring along a linear path. Concept model 1 Concept model 1, there are points where the datum breaks away where the white chipboard intersects it. Concept Model 2 became a further exploration, but became too complex. Concept model 3 was an architectural exploration, and deviated a bit from the initial model. Concept model 3 Concept model 3, the copper wire represents Deckard as he progresses through the film. Concept model 3 Initial Site model, the large white piece represents the main film viewing room. From the get go the datum element carried over into architecture. It took the form of a media/digital wall. Another iteration of the project. Midterm floor plans - 1st Midterm floor plans - 2nd Midterm floor plans - 3rd Midterm Section - facing East. This cuts through the main viewing room, ground floor offices and the lobby to the left. Shows the relationship between datum wall and program. Midterm Section - facing east. This cuts through the secondary film viewing room (which got eliminated further into the project), editing rooms, and other back door programs. Midterm East Elevation Midterm Section Model, looking at the north of the datum wall. Shows the relationship of different program spaces with the datum walls, and taking on different material qualiities. Midterm Section Model - looking east showing the datum wall at street (13th) Midterm Section Model - south wall showing ground floor offices, 2nd floor classrooms, and top floor viewing room. And each spaces relationship to the datum wall. Midterm Section Model - north side main lobby Midterm Section Model - tectonics of materials joining Initial post mid review sketch. Didn't follow this iteration, but it was a potential exploration of different building arrangement possibilities New Scheme - Initial drawing was to divide distinct program into different wedges, each one with their own material properties. Arranged left to right: public --> private Spatial and program exploration The back door operations of the building began to take on a more mass wall structure, while the more private functions such as offices and classrooms where more about transparency, post and beam. Parti diagram of final concept. Section studies right after mid review. The initial slant on the mid review elevation was too much. Section studies Section study facing east. Wanted to create a window out onto the streetscape from the viewing room Sectoin facing north, and the desire to create an interstitial space of light where the different wedges joined. Exterior sketch looking south on 13th street (from the north) Final Model - Site scale Final Model - Site scale Final Model - Site scale - looking south down 13th Final Model - Site scale - looking south down 13th Final Site/Ground floor plan Final 2nd floor Final 3rd floor Final Section - facing east. Cuts through the datum wall, viewing room, 2nd floor classrooms, lobby and ground floor offices. Final Section - looking north Final Section - looking south. The circulation ramp up to the viewing room is emphasized. Final Model - top view Final Model Final Model Final Model Final Model Exterior Rendering, along Glisan St facing north Exterior Rendering - the datum wall would be activated digitially at night, showing various films and strengthening the surrounding public spaces. Interior Rendering - entry. The public proceeds up to the viewing room through the datum wall (main circulation) Interior Rendering - 2nd floor arrival. Looking into the datum wall in the editing rooms. Main goal here was to provide an interaction between the public and what went on behind the scenes, making a stronger connection to the film they are viewing. The 3rd floor ramp to the viewing room, looking out to the north The public space before entering the viewing room, you are visually connected back to the surrounding context and where you made the entry.
