text Having determined my program was a place of reading, I began to conceptualize how and individual in
that environment would work. A lot of questions came into mind. But in the diagram it is one person who is reading and removed from their surroundings, but there is still an object of focus that acts to provide a break from reading. The same initial concept was applied at a larger scale, instead of an individual scale. Here the building programs act as a buffer for the more intimate space. Concept in Illustration In section, the idea was to have the space for reading looking out onto the interior space, and a greenwall that was on the opposite facade. Circulation and procession through the building. First you enter the building in a more public fashion, and there would be classrooms. You are then lead to a ramp which also functioned to house the literature, and ultimately end up in the intimate reading spaces. Facing East. Reading spaces on the upper left, classroom spaces on the right side. Facing South, looking out from the reading spaces at the green wall. Facing North, looking at the reading spaces and outdoor space. Ramp and library on the right. On the circulation/literature ramp approaching the reading cubes. In the hall in reading corridor. Public/Group space on the right, quiet reading pods are on the left. In the reading space, with individual reading pods. The concept is once you are in a reading pod, it will light up indicating it's occupied. There would also be an overhead light that provides illumination and an indicator that it is in use. View from southeast looking at ramp space on right. Approaching from Broadway street. Corner at Broadway View into private middle space. Reading rooms looming on the left.
